Mildred L. Moore Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Mildred L. Moore Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by Mary Lisa Moore '94 '97 to support NCAT State University undergraduate students with a declared major in Psychology within the John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences. Recipient (s) must have demonstrated financial need to the University as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Lisa experienced humble beginnings in her hometown of Fayetteville, NC and became intrigued with Human Behavior at an early age. Prior to graduating from E. E. Smith High School in 1989, she decided her purpose in life would be to serve communities impacted by a lack of access to Mental Health services and Preventative Healthcare. While attending undergraduate and graduate school at NCAT, she worked in various settings, including Bluford Library (Work Study),The Afro-American Historical and Cultural Museum in Philadelphia, PA, (Summer Tour Guide), Minority Biomedical and Research Support Program (Research Student), Alex Haley Hall (Resident Assistant), Hayes -Taylor YMCA and later Healthforce (Mental Health Technician) and Murphey Traditional Academy (Teacher Assistant). Part-time employment was crucial in supplementing the awarded Financial Aid needed to remain in college. Scholarships are so important and oftentimes a lifeline for students. A scholarship can make the difference between remaining enrolled or having to delay or be denied the collegiate experience.

Lisa was inspired by a number of individuals and family members, including Dr. Joseph Monroe '62 and the late Sallie McNair Monroe for their philanthropic spirit and commitment to excellence. She founded Moore Professional Counseling in 2006 and recently celebrated 17 years as a proud business owner. Unfortunately, Lisa's beloved mother passed away in 1999 at 51 years of age. Mrs. Moore left her adult children- David, Sophia, Lisa and James- with the ability to see the best in others and the drive to persevere despite life challenges. The Mildred L. Moore Endowed Scholarship Fund was established to honor her life and support students striving to become change agents while also persevering beyond life challenges. Your generous gift as a one time donor or a recurring donor will make an impact for decades to come.
